Hello lovelies!
My name is Sherah, and I am one of the fashion bloggers for Fashionomics Live. I’m a seventeen-year-old high school senior currently living in sunny Southern California where I spend my free time listening to Melanie Martinez on repeat, reading Nylon and Teen Vogue, and writing. I enjoy traveling, and my favorite place to visit is New York City. I’m super stoked to begin writing for this blog, and I hope you will be just as excited to read our posts!
Now for some of you, Summer break isn’t ending anytime soon, which means you still have the freedom to sport cute flowy sundresses, big floppy sun hats, and oversized cat-eye sunglasses whenever you want. However, for others, including myself, school is just right around the corner or may have even started. Soon we’ll be trading our carefree, adventure filled days with classes that feel like forever and late night study sessions. The start of another school year also means that we will soon bid farewell to sweet summertime and greet Autumn hello. Because of this, it’s time to search for the chicest Summer to Fall transitional pieces that can double as A+ back to school wardrobe basics.
White Blazer
The white blazer is a true back to school wardrobe staple, and it is also a simple piece to wear as we transition from summer into autumn. However, a white blazer is quite challenging to style, especially when you need to put together a school-appropriate outfit. The good news is that with the right casual pieces that best complement the fit of your blazer, you can immediately achieve a polished yet laid-back look.
A classic lightweight overcoat can be worn with a plain white tank top or t-shirt to form a monochromatic pairing. A bold printed skirt can be added to the rest of the crisp and clean ensemble to create a slightly edgier vibe, and strappy sandals tie everything together.
If you aren’t the biggest fan of busy prints, the timeless jeans and a white t-shirt duo can be dressed up with a white blazer. When you throw in a pair of sleek beige flats, eye-catching accessories, and a structured bag, you can construct a fresh, modern outfit that will prove you’re classroom ready.
Graphic T-Shirt
The graphic t-shirt is a back to school must-have for several reasons. First, it is the perfect solution for those days when you have absolutely nothing to wear. Second, a graphic tee is often super inexpensive. Graphic t-shirts give you a lot of room to be creative when styling your outfits, so you always have the freedom to show a bit of your personality while wearing them.
During the transitional period between summer and fall, the weather may be inconsistent. For example, sometimes it may be chilly in the morning but scorching hot in the afternoon. This is why layering is a good option to consider when you choose to wear a graphic tee. Not only does the traditional denim jacket or cardigan layered over a tee appear effortlessly cool, but it also adds subtle detail.
The graphic tee and ripped boyfriend jeans look is not a new idea, but you can include certain elements to this fashion-forward ensemble to add a new and more refined spin. For instance, a nicely tailored jacket and a pair of killer high heels make for a spot-on outfit that is also considered to be on-trend for summer and fall 2015. Remember that you can switch out high heels with a pair of statement flats if you aren’t comfortable wearing heels to school.
Flats
It’s no secret that you can jazz up any outfit with a fabulous pair of flat shoes. Flats are the ideal seasonal transitional item to rock during the beginning of the school year as they are both stylish and comfortable, and they can match with anything.
Ballet flats, sandals, or pointy flats can be worn with cutoff shorts or rolled-up pants. It can also be coupled with a dressy blouse and an oversized denim jacket layered over it in order to achieve a pleasant contrast. You can amp up on the accessories, such as adding an eye-catching belt or a large ring, for a hint of glam.
Oxford shoes give off a preppy vibe, which is perfect for a scholastic setting. A sundress often goes well with oxfords, a combination that can work well both during the Summer and during the Fall. If it gets too cold to solely wear the sundress with the oxfords during Autumn, you can opt to add a cardigan and tights for some warmth.
High-Waisted Jeans
High-waisted jeans are the epitome of comfy, cute, and casual. They have the power to make you look adorable whether you match them with a summer tank top or a patterned t-shirt. One thing to keep in mind while shopping for high-waisted jeans is to look for styles that are flattering but are also comfortable.
‘70s style high-waisted jeans have been a heavily embraced trend recently, and you can do the same by sporting them in the classroom. Complement loose-fitting, light wash high-waisted jeans with a sophisticated button-down shirt, a tailored blazer, a satchel, and chunky sandals for a modernized bohemian-inspired outfit.
If you want a more retro-inspired look, high-waisted jeans with a black leather jacket are the way to go. Styled with a simple crop top and black suede ankle boots, this outfit can be worn during school days when the bright Summer sun is up and shining and even when the breezy autumn weather starts to kick in.
Sweater Dress
The sweater dress is a perennial staple in any girl’s closet. It is a versatile garment that can be altered to accommodate the changing weather and those long hours you spend at school. The best part about sweater dresses is the elegant yet relaxed aspect to them considering how easy they are to wear.
A basic sweater dress can be worn during your first week of school, but in this case, you will need to pick out one made of lighter material or one that is sleeveless. Heels are an option, but sneakers, flats, or combats boots are a good choice too. Statement jewelry is a reasonable contribution to an overall dressed-up look, while a choker necklace or knee-high socks call for a more edgy ensemble.
As fall approaches, temperatures will lower, so you will need to get an extra cozy sweater dress. One option is to wear a dress with a long turtleneck, which can add some flair. However, to brighten up a fairly basic piece, you can wrap around a vibrant scarf, thrown on a colorful beanie, or slip on a unique pair of shoes. Accessorize all you want because when you wear a sweater dress, there is no such thing as too many accessories.
