Exploring Korean Fashion

Hi everyone! My name is Mica, and I’m so excited to be writing for Fashionomicslive. For my first post I wanted to talk about Korean fashion because I was lucky enough to attend KCON this past weekend and was surrounded by all sorts of Korean fashion and beauty. For those of you that don’t know KCON is a 3-day Korean convention/concert in Los Angeles (and recently extended to New York!) that brings together many different aspects of Korean culture, mainly music (aka K-pop), but also Korean fashion and beauty.

There were many different panels, one even involving Korean model Irene Kim. She is known as the Korean “It Girl” and is also widely known for her unicorn-inspired hair. Irene is a famous Korean-American born in Seattle, she studied textile design at FIT in New York, and now currently resides in Seoul, Korea. She has gained a large following on instagram with almost 600k followers, and is also a co-host for the show K-style on Mnet America, so she’s popular on and off of television. While sadly I wasn’t able to meet her myself, she packed an entire room at KCON with fans and even had a row of fans outside of the room waiting to meet her.

Besides Irene Kim, each of the K-pop groups rocked their own style on-stage during the 2-day concert that took place so I wanted to cover some of the fashion of the girl groups.

The group Red Velvet probably had the most laid back style, but they still stood out with their pastel pleated tennis skirts and colored college t-shirts. They pulled off this cute sporty look really well with their baseball caps, and their look was one of the easiest to re-create as I saw many fans cosplay as them on their concert day.

AOA also had a very cute sporty look going on with matching orange crop tops and tennis skirts. Although they had very minimalistic outfits, the orange color really stood out while they were on stage.

Out of all the girl groups that performed, SISTAR was definitely my favorite in terms of music and fashion. They wore bright sequined shorts with equally flashy crop tops, which they pulled off perfectly. Their stunning sequined outfits matched perfectly with their high-energy dance moves.

I love being able to see fashion trends from different parts of the world, and I’m so glad to have been able to experience so much through this event. Although I have been following Korean fashion for quite some time, it was still fascinating to be able to see it in person. Even all the fans attending the convention showed off their own unique styles, so even if you’re not a fan of Korean music, I would encourage any fashion enthusiasts to attend. This experience has definitely inspired me to branch out even more into different styles from other countries.

Thank you so much for reading and I look forward to writing more posts in the future!

♥ Mica
