Dorm Life: Tips & Tricks to Stay Organized

Are you stumped on how to stay organized in a bedroom the size of some closets? Worry no more! School is stressful enough, so sometimes you just want to escape the clutter and mess. Here are some must-haves that helped me survive my time in the dorms.

1. Storage Bins- No matter what school you attend, most likely there is a Target, Wal-Mart, Bed Bath and Beyond, or another store nearby that sells these handy containers. They can hold anything from clothing, to shoes, to food and are stackable which makes them perfect for: lofted beds, minimal closet space, or even under the bathroom sink. Storage Bins are lifesavers!

2. Double Hanging Rack (Bed Bath and Beyond)- These handy bars that hang in your closet work wonders. They gives you double the hanging space, allowing you to fit double the amount of clothes in your small closet. You can adjust the length of the bar to perfectly fit your amount of space. The Double Hanging Rack is a must have!

3. Antibacterial Wipes- Please, get these right away. Dorms are filled with germs, and the minute flu season begins, most people are doomed. These handy wipes can be stored anywhere due to their small size and will actually save your life. At least twice a week I would wipe down the door handle, light switches, mini-fridge, and pretty much everything in the room. Antibacterial Wipes will prevent you from getting sick as well as clean up your space.

4. Drawer Dividers- These little dividers are perfect for organizing anything from school supplies to makeup. If you don’t want to have your desk overflowing with papers, pens, scantrons, and whatever else might be stuffed in there, get some drawer dividers! Or, if it is impossible to find anything in your bathroom drawer, dividers are the cure! Drawer Dividers make it extremely easy to stay organized and on top of your supplies.

5. Planner- This last item is by far the most important. I can’t tell you the amount of times I would have forgotten to do an assignment if I did not have a planner. After a long day of classes, it is normal to clear your head and try to relax, but when its time to start doing homework or study for an upcoming test, it is nearly impossible to remember everything that you have to do. So, use a planner and stay on top of everything, it will make your life so much easier!

I hope these tips will help you to stay organized this school year! Dorm life is an irreplaceable experience, and once you’re able to balance staying organized, with school and a social life, it will be even better.
