Drugstore vs. High End Lipsticks
1. Maybelline vs. MAC
The Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipstick in Clay Crush is ideal if you are aiming for nude lips but want to avoid washing your face out. The drugstore lipstick has warm brown undertones to add color to your pout while still creating that understated chic pucker. Just like its earthy tones, a swipe of Clay Crush feels light and fresh, only leaving a faint smell. The only downfall to this Maybelline lipstick is its creamy texture if you are going for matte lips.
The MAC Lipstick in Brave
is pinker than its Maybelline counterpart, but mattifies the lips for that Kylie Jenner aesthetic. The “higher end” lipstick wins in durability, a thicker texture, and a deeper pigmentation. It has a vanilla scent, a possible con for those of you who prefer their beauty products odorless.
2. NYX vs. Too Faced
The NYX Matte Lipstick in Butter makes your lips pop out more with its vivid pigment, and has cooler tones for those of you wanting to stay from a warm and bohemian appearance. A downside to the drugstore brand is its tendency to get crumbly.
Too Faced’s Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in Chihuahua will literally last forever. While drug store brands can compete in color, none can top the longevity of a Too Faced melted lipstick. The lipstick glides on like a buttery and thick lip gloss, but hardens into a lipstick without feeling cakey. Despite its long list of plusses, the lipstick’s oil and the pigment tends to separate in the tube.
3. Rimmel London vs. Urban Decay
Rimmel London’s Kate Moss Collection of Lasting Finish Lipstick in 104 is my go-to class lipstick and favorite drugstore product. For only around five dollars a tube, the Rimmel London lipstick produces fuller lips without the need of excessive lip liner. The color, a light mauve, lasts an impressive amount of time for its price tag. Even though it has a velvety feel, the lipstick still leaves that trendy matte look.
Urban Decay’s Revolution Lipstick in Native is similar to Rimmel London’s lipstick shade above. Positives for this product are its lack of smell and smooth application. The lipsticks don’t draw a big list of differences between one another, so it would probably be best to go with the drug store brand in this case.
