"Say what you wanna say, and let the words fall out. Honestly, I wanna see you be brave," are the lyrics, from her 2013 pop hit "Brave," that singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles is most popular for. But this empowering tune only touches the surface of who Bareilles is, and what she is capable of as an artist. This is showcased in her recently released new album "What's Inside: Songs From Waitress," the soundtrack to her new Broadway musical which will hit the stage later this year (side note: tickets are already on sale!). From the powerful balled "She Used to Be Mine," to the peppy and bright "Opening Up," to "You Matter to Me" (a duet featuring the extremely talented Jason Mraz), Sara displays her versatility as an artist. She has obviously proven her ability to sing and write pop music, but Broadway tunes are no simple feat. Fortunately for Sara, this task was made a tad more simple, as she grew up in a family with a love for the theater.
In my opinion, there are so many extrordinarily talented musicians who happen to be so underrecognized by the public; Sara Bareilles is one of them. Considering her unique sound and her exceptional ability to connect with audiences through her poetic lyrics and subtle melodies, there is no reason why we shouldn't all be blasting her music from the rooftops, and as a music blogger, I am going to make it my mission to expose whoever's reading so some music that might not be on every radio station they tune in to.
Allow me to give you a thorough introduction to the beautiful work of Sara Bareilles. Here are my current top 5 songs. I'll begin with a spot on live rendition of Sara's latest single, "She Used To Be Mine", and then introduce you to some oldies but goodies :)
