The Force Awakens the Faux-Hawk

Trend Spotting Movie Review

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The Force Awakens the Faux-Hawk

We all know Star Wars: The Force Awakens was an awesome film, scoring incredible reviews everywhere, but throughout the movie there were plenty of trends to also awaken one’s force! This movie hit hard in the action-filled scenes (even tugging on your heart strings) leading me to believe it’s massive public influence will spark some new looks!

One of the film's main characters, Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, portrays a young adult who shocks everyone with her ability to fight, and is seen wearing her hair in a faux-hawk the entire film. Faux-hawks originated from the infamous Mohawk which lends to a “badass” look without having to commit to shaving the entire head. Clearly, after Rey comes out wearing the Faux-hawk, it’s obvious to audiences, she is not a girl to be messed with! (Seen below)

The influence from this movie is already being felt; in fact, the look may become as massive as the film! There have been a number of YouTube videos showing how to “make the perfect” Faux-hawk. Fashion bloggers are being spotted debuting the cool-do but with a feminine twist using a braided technique while at the Golden Globes, which premiered on January 10th, Rooney Mara wore the look. (Sidenote: Mara is an actress who strutted her stuff on the red carpet at the Golden Globes with hair slicked-back in a braided Faux-hawk created by celebrity hairstylist, Adir Abergel.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was an action filled movie that will go down in history along with its predecessors. Whether you have seen every Star Wars film that has come out or this is your first venture into the series, this movie will knock your socks off. But beware as the main character, Rey, may very well cast her influence on “you” to leave theater in search of the nearest salon to adopt your own version of the Faux-hawk trend!
