If you haven’t heard Beyonce’s new song “Formation” than you either haven’t seen any
news/media source lately or you live under a rock, either one I’m not judging, I’m just saying
you need to watch her new video, ASAP. Not only does she eloquently merge politics with
music but she completely distinguishes herself as much more than just a singer. She is a
world icon, supporting the Black Lives Matter campaign in the strongest way she can.
Throughout her video she uses black stereotypes and vivid images to stand up against
to societal white standards. The song is completely jaw dropping. Many tweeted of her new
video, even describing Queen B as being “unquestionably black” as she proves to the world
that being a strong, black woman is much more of an advantage than society places it to
be. Not only did her video go completely viral and shake the music industry but her Super
Bowl performance was one for the books. Many believe she was “too extreme” with her
performance but I completely disagree. I think she gave a true performance being that is
exactly what she is, a performer. She gave everyone a show to remember, the exact goal of
any artist in the music industry. And not only did she go up and play some Top of The
Charts song, she made a political statement to millions of viewers nationwide and for that,
I applaud her.
