Writings on the Walls

With the persistent growth of social media and its ability to spread word faster than you can say “retweet,” today’s world is chalk full of inspirational quotes, humorous puns, and relatable sayings. Blogs like tumblr and Twitter allow for the creation of some such idioms. Nowadays, it is common to see such wordage reproduced on things like t-shirts and bags, but lately the popular thread seems to be wall art and signs.

Movements like indie, artistic, and even minimalism have begun to emphasize the presence of readable visuals on the walls of places like artsy cafes and thrift stores – as an effort to give off that “homey” vibe toward customers. This has thus promoted the popularity of such readables in the homes of said customers, and even out into the remainder of the society-goers who don’t have a tumblr yet (emphasis on the yet ;P).

From handheld signs to few-feet-long canvases, words sprawled on walls of homes continues to be where it’s at. Sayings like “Keep Calm and Carry On” can be and are easily manipulated to fit popular vernacular and even specific culture styles, making it even easier to find or make your own wall quotes that apply to your likes and interests.

Stores like Restoration Hardware, Pier 1 Imports, and even Target and Costco have a smorgasbord of choices for wall sayings of all types and sizes! It is also not uncommon to find stick on quotes that peel easily on and off of walls. And if you’re the ultimate go-getter, you can always get uber creative and paint or chalk your own writings in your personal fashion and color!
