Makeup and beauty can play very different roles in different cultures and ethnicities. Personally, makeup is just something I use that boosts my confidence as well as to enhance my natural features. Where I live, makeup and beauty products are extremely common and most people assume that all women use them in some sort of way. However, a woman's ethnicity and culture can affect the way that she uses makeup as well as what type she might use. For me, my ethnicity allows me to easily find makeup that suits my skin tone as well as works with my oily skin type. A simple oil-free foundation in medium beige will do the trick! However, for a woman with darker skin, it may be harder for her to find a foundation, powder, or concealer that compliments her skin tone and doesn't dull it at all with a white cast. For my culture, makeup is seen as a normal and acceptable thing. I have been wearing makeup since I was around 13 and it's become an important part of my daily routine. I believe I achieve many personal benefits from wearing makeup, like feeling more confident and ready to take on the day. Over the years of wearing makeup and watching way too many makeup tutorials on Youtube (everyone’s guilty pleasure), I have found a pretty good selection of makeup products that work for most if not all skin tones!
Kat Von D’s Lock it foundation is one of the most raved about foundations by people of all skin types and colors. The range of colors is great and the formula is super smooth and gives you that airbrushed look that everyone’s striving for right now. I’ve personally used this foundation and love it! I have oily skin and some redness around my nose/chin and it covered it completely without looking too cakey.
Another product I’ve loved and used multiple times is the Ben Nye Banana powder. This product is something every girl with oily skin has got to try! The powder is considered a translucent powder and it works with all skin tones, giving the wearer a matte, oil free finish without giving you a gray tinge. You can bake your face with this, or even just use it to set your under eye concealer.
For all the brow fanatics out there, like me, Anastasia Dip Brow is the product for you no matter what color your brows are. I’ve used this product for years and a large range of ethnicities will be able to use this product too for the many different colors for different hair colors. It’s an all -time favorite of many, and I can not rave about it enough! Anastasia offers a good range of colors and the consistency of the product allows for easy application. I usually apply this with an angled brow brush and then run a clear brow gel through them. The brow gel really helps with making it last all day and it gives it a very clean and finished look.
